St Michael's and All Angels
Church, Mottram, Cheshire
First mentioned in 1291, the
church is built of Tintwistle Knarr gritstone. It stands
on War Hill, named after a local conflict between supporters
of Matilda and those of her cousin Stephen, grandson of
William the Conqueror. As you approach the church from
War Hill, there are Goddard and Rhodes graves to be found
about two rows back on the left. Also look for the Bodysnatchers
Grave, 20 paces from the boilerhouse door.
