Marriage
of James Crabtree and Elizabeth Stansfield
James
CRABTREE married Elizabeth
STANSFIELD at All Saints Church in Glossop, Derbyshire
on 15 January 1844. Their ages were simply given as 'full'
and James was a bachelor living in Dinting. He was a hatter
by profession, although there is no evidence of any hatting
industry in the area thiat might account for his presence
there. It is possible that he was living there temporarily
so that they could marry by banns, rather than pay to marry
by licence. Elizabeth was also living in Dinting and she
did not name her father, the entry simply reading 'dead'.
Neither James nor Elizabeth could sign their names. The
witnesses were John MARLOR and Robert WINTERBOTTOM and the
vicar was Christ HOWE
