Spout Green in
1907. The 18th century cottages, some with workshops
attached, housed hatter and handloom weavers. During
the later 19th century a steam
driven mill was built here. The houses in the
foreground still remain, but the rest of the hamlet
and the mill, together with the name, have disappeared
to be replaced by a housing estate called Roe Cross
Green.
Ruth
SIDEBOTHAM lived in the area in 1881. She married
James
BENTLEY, brother of Robert
whose wife was Fanny
GODDARD.
