The Coming of steam power meant that mills could be built away from rivers, and other sources of water power. A little stream fed the boilers of this small steam powered mill at Spout Green, Mottram.

Ruth SIDEBOTHAM lived in the area in 1881. She married James BENTLEY, brother of Robert whose wife was Fanny GODDARD.
