Marriage of John Alfred Prestwich and Mary Elizabeth Stanley

St Peter's, AshtonJohn Alfred PRESTWICH was a 21 year old carter when he married Mary Elizabeth STANLEY on Easter Saturday, 12 April 1884 at St Peter's Church, Ashton-under-Lyne. He was living at 27 Bradgate Street in Ashton (Multimap) and his father, Arthur Worsley PRESTWICH worked as a grinder. Mary was living at 44 John Street (Multimap) which is perhaps where the couple first lived as their first three children were born there. She could not write and gave her father's name as Thomas STANLEY (deceased) and his occupation as a minder. There is some question about this entry and it is discussed in more detail elsewhere. The witnesses were Arthur Worsley PRESTWICH, and Robert (his mark) and Nancy Dronsfield.
