Marriage
of Jane Ratcliffe and John Higginbottom Greenwood
Jane married John
at the Old St George Church, Stalybridge, on 3 April 1870.
She was a spinster and gave her as 28, although this is
contradicted on the census returns, for example a year later
in 1871 when
she she gives age as 34. Jane's
occupation was laundress and she was living in Mottram Her
father was James Ratcliffe and his
occupation was simply 'operative.'
Jane was a 24 year
old bachelor and worked as an iron driller. His father was
also John Greenwood and worked as an operative. The ceremony
was performed by the vicar, John B Jelly-Dudley and was
witnessed by T Swallow and William Platt.
