Marriage of Sarah Walker and James Dixon

Sarah Walker and James Dixon married on Saturday, 26 March 1842, at Manchester Cathedral. She was a spinster and he was a bachelor and both were of 'full age' and were residing in Ardwick. James gave his occupation as a weaver and his father Richard was an oot-looker. Interestingly, Sarah gave her father's occupation as an 'organ builder' when in most other records he worked in the cotton industry as a twister-in. In the 1841 census, John Walker described himself as a joiner so he might well have been involved in organ building before having a career change. That this is the right couple is borne out by the witnesses who were Sarah's brother, Daniel and his future wife, Cecily Oldham.
